How Kuwait pays
Kuwait runs on KNET. The national debit network is mandated on every bank-issued Kuwaiti card and carries roughly 80% of online transactions — there is no opt-out for domestic issuers, which makes KNET non-negotiable for any acquirer serving the local consumer. International Visa and Mastercard appear on credit and dual-badged cards, Apple/Google/Samsung Pay are widely used, and WAMD — Kuwait's instant payment rail launched in late 2024 on KNET infrastructure — has scaled remarkably fast.
The dinar is the world's highest-valued currency unit and uses three decimal places (fils), a detail that quietly breaks processors built for two — ours handles ISO 4217 three-decimal KWD correctly. For a global merchant, we carry international card acquiring and the express wallets today; KNET — the rail that reaches the domestic mainstream — is best served through CBK-licensed local partners, which is the position we build from. KWD settlement against the dollar-linked basket is predictable, and Arabic-first checkout is expected.
