How Rwanda pays

Rwanda is one of Africa's most deliberate cashless-economy builders, and it pays by mobile money: MTN MoMo leads, with Airtel Money behind, interconnected through the national switch operated under the National Bank of Rwanda. Cards (Visa, Mastercard) exist for urban and cross-border spend but are a minor rail next to wallets. Government policy actively pushes digital payments, making Rwanda a fast-moving, well-regulated market.

The currency is the Rwandan franc (RWF). For a global merchant, international card acquiring is available today; the local mobile-money rails that the mass market uses are best reached through locally licensed partners, which is the position we build from. Franc settlement, FX into your base currency and BNR licensing are part of that local layer. Rwanda is a strong regional beachhead, with ambitions as an East and Central African financial hub.

Built for enterprise

Everything it takes to run payments in Rwanda

Local payment methods are only half the job. We carry the operational weight โ€” acquiring, settlement, FX, licensing and reconciliation โ€” so you can treat Rwanda like any other market in your stack.

One integration, growing local coverage

Connect once for what's live in Rwanda today โ€” including international card acquiring โ€” and add local wallets and bank rails through the same integration as we bring them online.

Local acquiring, higher approvals

We route to local acquirers and retry failed payments across alternate rails, so domestic cards and wallets authorize at local rates instead of being declined as cross-border traffic.

Settlement, FX & repatriation

Collect in the Rwandan franc (RWF) and settle in your base currency. We handle the FX conversion and the local rules for moving funds out of the country โ€” the part most global merchants underestimate.

Licensing handled locally

We're establishing locally licensed partners so you can process in-country as we expand local coverage โ€” without standing up your own entity or chasing a license.

Payouts & reconciliation

Pay out to sellers and process refunds on the same rails you collect on, and reconcile every flow โ€” pay-in, payout, refund โ€” in one ledger, in local or base currency.

Fraud, disputes & compliance

Real-time screening, chargeback and dispute handling, and KYC/AML that matches local regulator expectations โ€” built in, not bolted on.
