How Côte d'Ivoire pays
Côte d'Ivoire pays by mobile money. Orange Money leads, with MTN MoMo, Moov Money and the disruptor Wave — whose flat 1% transfer fee reset pricing for the whole market in 2021 — rounding out a field of tens of millions of wallets. Cards are a secondary rail: the banked population is small, and most cards are debit cards on the regional GIM-UEMOA scheme alongside Visa and Mastercard. Any serious checkout here leads with the four mobile-money wallets.
The detail that matters for a global merchant is the currency union. Côte d'Ivoire uses the West African CFA franc (XOF), pegged to the euro at a fixed 655.96 and guaranteed by the French Treasury — so FX volatility is effectively nil. It is also the largest economy in WAEMU, the eight-country monetary union governed by a single central bank, the BCEAO. In September 2025 the BCEAO went live with a zone-wide instant payment system (PI-SPI) connecting banks and wallets across all eight states.
That makes Côte d'Ivoire a doorway, not a dead end: one BCEAO license and one integration can extend across Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and the rest of the franc zone — roughly 140 million people — with no FX conversion between them. Checkout must be in French, cash on delivery is still common outside Abidjan, and PSP licensing now runs through the BCEAO's 2024 framework — all of which our local partners carry.
Why merchants run on us here
All four wallets, not one
Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Moov Money and Wave — the full mobile-money field that Ivorians actually use, behind one integration.
One door to eight countries
Côte d'Ivoire is your entry to the whole WAEMU franc zone. The same integration extends to Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and beyond — no FX conversion between them.
Euro-pegged, volatility-free
The XOF is fixed to the euro, so settlement and pricing are predictable — a rare luxury in African markets.
French checkout & BCEAO licensing
Fully French-language flows and processing through BCEAO-licensed local partners, so you launch compliant from day one.

Everything it takes to run payments in Côte d'Ivoire
Local payment methods are only half the job. We carry the operational weight — acquiring, settlement, FX, licensing and reconciliation — so you can treat Côte d'Ivoire like any other market in your stack.
One integration, every local method
Connect once and reach every card scheme, wallet, bank rail and installment provider in Côte d'Ivoire through a single API — no separate contract or integration per provider.
Local acquiring, higher approvals
We route to local acquirers and retry failed payments across alternate rails, so domestic cards and wallets authorize at local rates instead of being declined as cross-border traffic.
Settlement, FX & repatriation
Collect in the West African CFA franc (XOF) and settle in your base currency. We handle the FX conversion and the local rules for moving funds out of the country — the part most global merchants underestimate.
Licensing handled locally
Process through our locally licensed partner entities. You launch without standing up a local entity or chasing a payments license of your own.
Payouts & reconciliation
Pay out to sellers and process refunds on the same rails you collect on, and reconcile every flow — pay-in, payout, refund — in one ledger, in local or base currency.
Fraud, disputes & compliance
Real-time screening, chargeback and dispute handling, and KYC/AML that matches local regulator expectations — built in, not bolted on.
