How Ghanaians pay

Ghana runs on mobile money, led decisively by MTN MoMo, with Telecel Cash (the former Vodafone Cash) and AirtelTigo Money behind it. Mobile money processed over eightย billion transactions in 2024 and dwarfs every other rail by value. The detail that sets Ghana apart: it is the one African market where all domestic schemes are fully interoperable. The GhIPSS Mobile Money Interoperability switch lets any wallet, bank account and GhanaPay account move money to any other โ€” so a single mobile-money integration reaches every wallet holder, not just one operator's 73%.

For bank rails, GhIPSS Instant Pay (GIP) gives real-time account-to-account transfers and was the fastest-growing rail in 2024 โ€” the institutional-grade instrument for payouts and refunds. Cards (Visa, Mastercard, and the domestic gh-linkscheme) serve the diaspora, corporate and international-traveler segments, but card penetration is structurally low next to the reach of mobile-money agents. The mass-market checkout leads with mobile money.

Two recent shifts matter to an enterprise merchant. The deeply unpopular E-Levy on electronic transfers was fully repealed in April 2025, removing a friction cost from every digital payment. And the cedi is volatile โ€” a sharp 2024 depreciation followed by an equally sharp 2025 reversal โ€” so GHS collection with settlement in your base currency needs real FX handling, along with Bank of Ghana PSP licensing, both of which sit with our local partners.

Why merchants run on us here

Every wallet, one integration

Because Ghana's schemes are fully interoperable via GhIPSS, our mobile-money integration reaches MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo and GhanaPay holders alike โ€” not just one operator.

Current on the market, not behind it

We surface Telecel Cash, not the retired โ€œVodafone Cashโ€ โ€” a small detail that signals we operate Ghana today.

Instant payouts via GIP

GhIPSS Instant Pay for real-time account-to-account payouts and refunds โ€” the institutional rail for marketplace flows.

Cedi FX & BoG licensing

Collect in GHS and settle in your base currency through Bank of Ghanaโ€“licensed partners, with FX managed against a volatile cedi.

Built for enterprise

Everything it takes to run payments in Ghana

Local payment methods are only half the job. We carry the operational weight โ€” acquiring, settlement, FX, licensing and reconciliation โ€” so you can treat Ghana like any other market in your stack.

One integration, every local method

Connect once and reach every card scheme, wallet, bank rail and installment provider in Ghana through a single API โ€” no separate contract or integration per provider.

Local acquiring, higher approvals

We route to local acquirers and retry failed payments across alternate rails, so domestic cards and wallets authorize at local rates instead of being declined as cross-border traffic.

Settlement, FX & repatriation

Collect in the cedi (GHS) and settle in your base currency. We handle the FX conversion and the local rules for moving funds out of the country โ€” the part most global merchants underestimate.

Licensing handled locally

Process through our locally licensed partner entities. You launch without standing up a local entity or chasing a payments license of your own.

Payouts & reconciliation

Pay out to sellers and process refunds on the same rails you collect on, and reconcile every flow โ€” pay-in, payout, refund โ€” in one ledger, in local or base currency.

Fraud, disputes & compliance

Real-time screening, chargeback and dispute handling, and KYC/AML that matches local regulator expectations โ€” built in, not bolted on.
